MVB Supports Third Annual GameChanger Golf Classic

(FAIRMONT, W.Va.) June 6, 2023 – A founding corporate sponsor of the GameChanger program, an initiative designed to combat opioid and substance misuse, MVB Bank served as title sponsor for the third annual GameChanger Prevention Education Golf Classic held May 24 and 25, 2023, at the world-famous Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.

MVB President Don Robinson is one of the three leaders who have been involved in the program since day one.

“We are truly blessed. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine the magnitude of the growth and phenomenal success and interest with GameChanger, not only throughout West Virginia but the nation as well. There is no way when I sat down with Bernie Dolan and Joe Boczek to see what MVB Bank could do to help our youth in the state did I Imagine what the movement would achieve in just over three years,” Robinson said.

A record number of supporters attended the gala dinner and reception and the golf tournament scramble, as well as two teams of golfers from MVB including Robinson, John Schirripa, Matt Dean and Herman DeProspero.

More than 500 GameChanger allies attended both the reception and dinner on the evening of May 24, while 54 golf threesomes paid to support prevention education in West Virginia schools on May 25, as 42 teams took to both the Old White and Meadows courses on a perfect sun-splashed afternoon.

Three-time national champion and Hall of Fame basketball coach Roy Williams delivered the keynote address, adding to a growing tradition started by keynote honorees Nick and Terry Saban (2021) and Brad Paisley (2022).

WVU women’s basketball star and Hall of Fame inductee Meg Bulger, who serves as GameChanger community and education liaison, emceed the event.

In addition to Williams, U.S. Senators Joe Manchin and Shelley Moore Capito, State Superintendent of Schools David Roach, Harrison County superintendent Dora Stutler and Madison Middle School principal Shann Elkins addressed the crowd, as did GameChanger Executive Director Joe Boczek and Chairman of the Board Larry Puccio.

GameChanger supporters with West Virginia and national ties in education, business, health care, athletics and public service turned out in record numbers.
