Foster Youth Housewarming Party

MVB Bank’s Foster Youth Housewarming Party aims to provide items needed for those new to independent living, such as kitchen tools, bedding or cleaning supplies.

Through May 31, MVB Bank is hosting a virtual Foster Youth Housewarming Party for West Virginia and Virginia young people who are aging out of foster care. MVB recognized the increased risk of financial strain for newly aged-out foster youth. In response, MVB partnered with Fairfax County Department of Family Services, Children’s Home Society of West Virginia and the Our Children Fund at the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia to create the Foster Youth Housewarming Party.

The Housewarming Party aims to provide items needed for those new to independent living, such as kitchen tools, bedding or cleaning supplies. Gifts can be selected through Amazon Wish Lists, built by Foster Youth Housewarming Party recipients. Additionally, monetary donations are being collected to acquire any unpurchased items remaining at the end of the fundraiser and fund ongoing emergency needs for young people as they get established without aid from family. MVB will match up to $1,000 of community donations for both agencies.

To make monetary donations or purchase an item from one of the Amazon Wish Lists, please use the links below.

The Our Children Fund was created to provide financial assistance for “normalizing” items and experiences to children in the Fairfax County foster care system between the ages of birth and 17 years and young adults between the ages of 18 and 21 if permanency (return home, relative placement, or adoption) is not achieved and addresses their otherwise unmet medical, social, emotional, and education needs.

Founded in 1978, the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia has been the premier charitable partner trusted by thousands of generous Northern Virginians for decades. Its mission is to advance equity through philanthropy and community leadership. Comprised of donor advised funds, permanent funds, giving circles, and other charitable endowments, the Community Foundation’s vision is to build a community that works for everyone.
